Chickens Are Not The Only Ones

Dear Kindergarten Families,

This week was full of celebration. Together we enjoyed Edith's 6th birthday, Yom Ha'Atzmaut (Israel's 71st birthday) and the arrival of our fertilized chicken eggs. We soaked in the sunshine and worked on representational drawings of beautiful spring flowers (Crab Apple blossoms, Alstoemeria and Tulips). Kindergartners are not the only ones growing in our classroom! Please take a careful look at our bean plants (potted and hanging) and the eggs in the incubator.

Upcoming:

On Thursday, May 16th, our Kindergarten has the chance to go to the Newton Food Pantry, where we will learn about how a food pantry acquires food and gets it to folks who need assistance in stocking their shelves.  This will be part of a Jewish Studies and Social Justice unit about the Jewish response to hunger (particularly, child hunger) in our communities.  We will have a tour of the pantry, help to put items in the proper place and interview the Director of Volunteers, Jackie Colby.

Please help us to gather a collection of food items that we can bring to the pantry.  NFP is in need of:

Canned beets
Canned pineapple
Canned mandarin oranges
Tea
Dried Beans

We are collecting until the day of our trip, May 16th.

Thank you for your help with this important endeavor!

Field Trip: Kindergartners will be delivering their class collection of food items in person to the Newton Food Pantry on Thursday, May 16th. Please pack comfortable shoes. We will return in time for lunch at school.
Shabbat Helpers: Edith and Aar
Important Person Week: Zachary 5/13- 5/17
Birthdays: Mrs. Liptz 5/30

Shabbat Shalom!
Sharon and Rachel
