This morning, the second graders got a very special guest: a soil scientist ! We are so lucky to have 4th grade parent Mr. Gordon to share what he does as his daily work! In the classroom, we have been learning all about soil and the different layers that exist below what we can see. We have read books, seen pictures, and created diagrams, but now... we got to see the real thing!                                              Ask your child about the different layers to soil!

Last week, the second graders got to participate in making their very own matzah! They learned about the different components of wheat and what parts are kept and what parts a thrown away. Here are some pictures of them in action!

Hello to all! The past few days have found us investigating electricity vis-a-vis a battery, a couple of pieces of wire, and a very tiny lightbulb. The kids were asked to play around with these objects to see what they could discover. It wasn't long before they realized they were able to create a circuit given that they had all three ingredients to do so (a power source, a conductor, and an appliance). What followed was wonder, the natural phenomenon that follows discovery! and curiosity! and learning! Enjoy the photos!

The class has just begun an exciting science unit on electricity! After reading about static electricity, batteries, and light bulbs in our reading groups, we conducted a hands on experiment this morning focused on electrical circuits. The students were split into groups and attempted to find different paths to light up a small bulb using just a wire and single battery. The groups made their hypotheses independently and then moved on to testing the various set ups. They then shared their conclusions and discussed the reasons why some allowed the light bulb to glow brightly, while others failed to work. Check out some photos below of our 3rd grade scientists!
