From the Wings

Hello;

    As this year’s officers from the Rashi chapter of the International Thespian Society, we would like explain what the ITS is and what our roles mean to us.

    Being a member of the ITS displays dedication to the theater and demonstrates the ability to take leadership in our community. In order to join, students must assist within the theater both on stage as an actor and off stage, critiquing and/or participating in the technical aspects. For each 5 hours that one is completing these critera, they earn a point. When a student earns 10 points, they are inducted into the International Thespian Society. At Rashi, eighth grade member of the ITS are assigned the position of officers, a role which requires/allows the students to make decisions on behalf of the whole theater community at Rashi. For example, at one of the recent officer meetings, we decided to award ITS points to 5th graders involved in middle school shows and we are currently planning a group trip. Throughout this year, we want to get to know you all better and we encourage you to come watch our shows or ask us any questions you may have about the theater program or student involvement.

    In addition to explaining who we are as a group, we would each like to introduce ourselves independently.

As we progress into this year, I aspire to create a new reputation for the Rashi drama program, displaying that it is serious, enjoyable, and teaches students skills that they can use on and off stage. One of my main goals is to organize trips to local theaters.

This role is directed in order to plan various trips to different schools and learn from their acting. Each year my director and fellow peers have taught me to not be afraid of making a mistake and to do my best.
