National Name Your Car Day!

In continuing with our celebrations of obscure national holidays, we started this beautiful Monday morning with a shout out to National Name Your Car Day! Herbie the Love Bug and Lightening McQueen from Cars? Those monikers hardly compare with the names our students bestowed upon their own imagined automobiles: George Washing Machine, Puppy McPink, Rainbow the Second, Emma Bologna Face, and Doug are just a few of our new friends.

Today's morning question, in celebration of National Name Your Car Day.

A student designed classic. Meet Martha Driving Machine!

The purpose of these celebrations is not only to stoke excitement in the students, but to provide opportunities for creative expression. We find they offer us a chance to engage with the students in dialogue about current and historical events, interesting salient cultural phenomenon, and the ways in which we find personal connection and meaning in the world around us...

Plus, it's just so fun!

Upcoming celebrations include: Mad Hatter Day (10/6), World Homeless Day (10/10), Train Your Brain Day (10/13), Dictionary Day (10/16), Wear Something Gaudy Day (10/17), TV Talk Show Host Day (10/23), and Howl at the Moon Day (10/26).
