Happenings in Fifth Grade
Happenings in Fifth
Thank you for attending Back to School Night. We hope you got a good picture of what the year will look like in 5th grade. If you have questions, please be in touch with us.
With Yom Kippur in the middle, this week flew by. Here are some of highlights:
We also started working on personal timelines which connected both to the number line and negative numbers in math as well as learning about short hand notation for input and output machines in math- algebra!!
Lastly, students were introduced to a perennial problem- bananas ripening too quickly, becoming brown and unappetizing! This is the real world problem that our students started to tackle this morning. After interviewing a banana expert (aka Mrs. Packer), each students came up with a research question, learned how to turn this into a hypothesis, as well as how to identify the control, independent, and dependent variables in an experiment. That was a huge amount to accomplish in one morning! Next week, we'll run the experiment and will report on results. (Please don't share your insider information, if you have any.)
Have a wonderful weekend joyous Succot!
