From the Wings - METG

Did you know that the Rashi School has been a member of The Massachusets Educational Theater Guild since 2003?  The Rashi Middle School Theater Company has been participating in the State Drama Festival for over 14 years.  We have had over 40 Rashi Middle School students stand and receive an All-Star Recognition Award at the festival over the years,  in the areas of Acting, Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Sound Design and even 2 students as Live Musicians!  There are over 40 Middle Schools around the state that participate and Rashi is one of the Host Sites for the Festival this year!  The exciting part of festival is watching other Middle Schools perform and knowing that in is almostly completely student run.  If you haven't seen a festival come and visit on Sunday, April 28th from 9 AM - 6 PM.

The Drama Guild is more than just the Middle School Drama Festival in April.  They also have a number of contests and workshops for Middle School and High School students to become in involved in.  Last year Eitan M. and Molly H. participated in the Monolgoue contest and came in third and fourth respectively.  This year there are Monologue, Costume, Scenic Design and Festival Logo Desgin Contests in January available to Middle School students.  The Student Workshop in November gives tips and strategies to support these contests.

The MET awards are also part of METG offerings.  This musical program supported by Broadway in Boston and Lexus allows schools to have adjudicators come to the schools and watch the shows on their own stage.  The cast and crew recieve professional feedback and are nominated for various categories and the awards ceremony is held in Boston in June.  Both High School and Middle School Students that recieve Best, Suppporting and Featured Actor/Actress nominations are included in a special opening number during the ceremony.  Rashi has had students participate in those opening numbers for the past  five years due to their nominations.

For more information on The Massachusettes Education Theater Guild and their Workshops and contests available to Middle School students visit ther webiste at metg.org. (You may even see some of the Rashi photos from past shows on their website!)
