Short Week with Lots of Learning

by Mrs. Glanz and Mrs. Packer

It was a short, but packed week in 5th grade! We started Math, Writing, Prehistory, and Science. Ask your child about the value of creating an organized list when trying to find all possible solutions to a math problem, or what is the difference between prehistory and history. In Writing, we started our first WE paragraph on the precept "Choose Kindness" from the book Wonder. All students completed a brainframe and elaborated paragraph template that was checked by a teacher. Students' first drafts (typed and printed) are due on TUESDAY. After an individual writing conference next week, their second drafts will be due the following week. In Science, we practiced close observation of and wondering about leaves and branches, as we learned that these skills are critical for science. As we learned about the difference between closed and open ended questions, we tried to generate as many open questions as we could about our leaves. Finally, we continued our work of last week, consolidating all the ideas we brainstormed as a class that we needed from ourselves, our teachers, and our classmates into a set of 5 class rules that will help us accomplish our hopes and dreams this year.

Enjoy the pictures of our scientists as they observe, come up with questions,
and share their thinking with each other.

Shabbat Shalom to all,
Anne and Sharon
