Buddies!
Buddies
This week we had Buddies for the first time. Each first grader learned which fourth grader was his/her buddy for the year. We did a survey to learn a little bit about one another. Then, we played a huge game of capture the topples (Mrs. Rosenblatt and Ms. Brauer's classes on one team and Joey and Mrs. Ricker's classes on the other). Students loved meeting their buddies and then having an opportunity to play and run around with them. There are two cute videos in the photo album of the game, including an epic jailbreak. Everyone was sad when the block ended and it was time to say good-bye, but we'll be seeing each other again soon.
Having participated in Reading Buddies last year, students were familiar with buddies, but it's slightly different this year. Rather than meeting each week, we will be meeting every other week for a whole block. During some of those meetings we will be reading together, but we also plan to do activities in other subjects. We can't wait to learn and play and build together!
