Launching the Fast Plant Experiment

The Fifth Grade Times
October 12, 2018
Anne Glanz/Sharon Packer

This week our 5th graders learned about Stone Age technology such as tools for hunting and sewing as well as how to farm and produce fire which ended the need for a nomadic life. In math, students learned new ways to multiply large numbers. Ask your child about this since you may have never heard of this method.

The week was truly filled with science learning. Following activities that about the importance of controlling all variables other than the independent variable, learning the basic needs of plants, students chose a variable to change, and wrote a hypothesis indicating what they predicted would happen to the experimental plant. This morning's planting session was exciting. As these specially developed seeds speed through their entire life cycle in about 38 days, we expect to see sprouts by Monday and to be able show their growth during Generations Day, next Friday.

Special thanks to Sarah Fleckner, Michelle Zisow, and Helene Gelber for helping us this morning!

Have a great weekend!
