Building Empathy By Understanding Our Differences

Fifth grade students took part in an inspiring morning learning about the Autism Spectrum, or AS, as part of the Understanding Our Differences program. We are grateful to our parent volunteers who led activities that gave our students a better understanding of what life can be like, including various challenges, for people with AS. At the end of the program we heard from a person in his 20's who is on the Autism Spectrum. He spoke about his experience and then he answered questions. Autism affects people in different ways, and as our speaker shared with our students, "when you've met one person with Autism, you've met one person with Autism."
