What's New in Grade Two: 11/19-11/29

This week's bloggers are Maya and Helene!

Jewish Studies:
Helene: In Jewish Studies we have been learning about Havdallah. It separates Shabbat from the new week. During Havdallah, we light a special candle. They are different from other candles because they are braided and they have at least three wicks.

NewBridge:
Helene: It was our first visit to the memory loss unit. People there have lost their memory because they have Alzheimer's Disease. We made memory boxes with the residents. I liked going there because everyone was nice and the residents were happy when we talked with them.

Maya: I enjoyed going to NewBridge. I liked talking to the residents and making the memory boxes with them.

Science:
Helene: We are writing our Animal Research Projects. I am researching the red fox. Red foxes see well at night, and baby foxes can start eating meat when they are ten days old.

Maya: I am researching squirrels. They live in nests in trees.

Warm Fuzzy Celebration:
Helene: The day before Thanksgiving, we had our Warm Fuzzy Celebration. We watched the movie Sing, and we got to bring in stuffed animals and wear pajamas. I know three of the songs in the movie. I really liked it.

Writer's Workshop:
Helene: I am writing a book about Winter. I am on my final draft, and I'm excited to publish and share it with the class.

Maya: I am writing a story about Plimouth Plantation. I went with my sister Sabrina and our babysitter. We went over Thanksgiving break. Everything was really interesting, and I like seeing the Pilgrims' and Wampanoags' houses. I am on my final draft, and I am excited to publish my story soon.

Favorite Part of the Week:
Maya: I liked learning about Thanksgiving and reading books about Pilgrims.

Helene: My favorite part of the week was visiting NewBridge.

Last week, we had a celebration since we met our goal of collecting Warm Fuzzies. We watched the movie Sing, wore pajamas, and brought in stuffed animals!

Asher shared her collection of sea glass with us.

This week, we went to the memory unit at NewBridge. Students worked in groups and made memory boxes with the residents.
