What's New in Grade Two: 11/5 - 11/16

This week, our bloggers are Ben and Jacob!

Science

Ben: We are learning about habitats. Last week, we went outside on a nature walk. We saw three habitats: a meadow, the woods, and the Charles River. During our walk, I saw birds and a turtle.

Jacob: We are going to learn about creatures that live in our area. We will write our Animal Research Projects and share them with the first graders when we are done so they can be ready for second grade.

Reading
Ben: During book groups, I am reading a book that is part of the Amber Brown series. It's about a girl who is going into fourth grade and she is about to go on a big trip.

Jacob: My book group is reading a book from the Magic Bone series. It is about a dog who travels to different places using his magic bone.

Writing
Ben: I am writing a story about football. My favorite part of the process is writing my rough draft because I can write down all my ideas.

Jacob: I just published my story about flag football. My favorite book that I have published so far is my story about fishing. I like to fish a lot and I get excited when I catch a fish.

Our Upcoming Visit to Newbridge:
Ben: Earlier this week, we learned about the memory support unit and how we are going to make memory boxes with the residents. Lynda and Mariana, who work at Newbridge, read a story to us called Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox.  We talked about what it's like to lose your memory.

Jacob: I am excited for our upcoming visit to NewBridge and to make the residents happy.

Social Studies
Ben: Today we began learning about Thanksgiving. We learned that the Mayflower was a cargo ship.

Favorite Books
Ben: I am reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid at home. I like it because it's a graphic novel.

Jacob: My favorite books that I am reading at home this week are Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants.

This week, we introduced the Relaxation Station. This area is equipped with a Calm Kit. The Calm Kit has a variety of fidgets students can utilize if they need to calm down or take a break for a minute.
