Earlier in the week, Stephanie Rotsky taught a fantastic lesson about Hurricane Katrina and connected flooding in ancient times to current natural disasters and issues of social justice.

Design Day!! December 21, 2018 Today was Design Day! The first graders were challenged with creating a shelter for an animal in order to protect it from the cold. The children were given UV beads and a pipe cleaner to build their animal. The second step in the process is designing a shelter for their animals. The first graders used recycled materials to build.  We tested the shelters with a UV light to make sure the animals were safe from the sun. All the shelters were a great success!!
