Purim and Weaving and More!

We found ourselves elbow-deep different kinds of weaving this week! Students had many opportunities to weave—with nylon “potholders” loops and yarn. We had a Visiting Artist in our classroom on Friday morning! Beth Guertin is a weaver and teacher who shared her talents and her looms with the first grade. She demonstrated how to set up and manipulate a large loom. Every student had a chance to weave a few rows! Beth loaned the first grade two beautiful four-harness looms to use for several weeks as we perfect our weaving skills!

Purim was alive and well at the Rashi School this week! Students loved dressing up in creative and fun costumes, making Purim cards and singing for the residents at Newbridge! Students gleefully listened to the Megillah and drowned out Haman’s name by shaking boxes of mac and cheese! Best of all, chocolate Hamantaschen were served after lunch on Thursday!

In Writers' Workshop, First Graders published another story! Students shared their Small Moment stories with their classmates. First graders began learning the art of revision. Armed with a copy of their “published” small moment story and a special purple “revision” pen, every child started learning strategies used by writers to improve stories.
