What's New in Grade Two
This week we learned all about food chains and climate change in preparation for Tamchui. We played a fun card game where students had to build food chains using various organisms. We also learned about civil rights and Martin Luther King Jr. Stephanie came into our classroom twice this week and taught two great lessons about civil rights. In Language Arts, we focused on grammar this week. Building off of our unit on nouns from a few weeks ago, second graders learned that adjectives are words that describe nouns. The students used adjectives in their writing, and the unit concluded with a fun activity in which we used adjectives to describe our friends. In math, we wrapped up our units on time and fact families. Second graders really enjoyed manipulating clocks and learning how to tell time.
Several very exciting things happened this week. We continued mini lessons on fiction writing. Students practiced adding strong beginnings to their rough drafts to hook the reader. In social studies, we introduced our Wax Museum unit! Students found out which biographies they would be studying, and they were so excited. We can't wait to read more about them next week. To wrap up the week, Mr. Fischer stopped by during Kol Hakavod and revealed the drawing we received from Peter Reynolds during our Blue Bunny field trip. He had the drawing framed, and it was a very exciting reveal. He presented us with a print that Peter made specifically for second grade.
We hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend, and we'll see you all on Tuesday!
