" Is it possible to lift a teacher (or other adult)
using only one foot or hand?"
This is the question that kicked off our new science unit about Simple Machines. Though only one student was sure that it could be done, by the end of the first experiment exploring how levers can make work easier, all students understood how this feat could be achieved using a long lever arm such as a seesaw. Please ask your child to explain what they did in this experiment and the results they discovered. New terms that they will use include lever arm, effort, fulcrum, and load. Unfortunately, we didn't capture our scientists in action during the experiment but will definitely include a picture of the second experiment next week.
We have also moved on from Prehistory to learning about life in the Fertile Crescent- the home of the first civilization. Students are now working on a brochure meant to lure nomadic groups to come settle in area. Life will be so much easier!
