Recycled Instruments in Third Grade!

We recently completed our sound unit in science! As a culminating activity, the class created instruments out of recycled household materials which could be modified to adjust their volume and pitch. Take a look below at the creation and testing process:

After the instruments were built, we split the class into four "Jam Bands". Their task was to create and practice a song to be performed as a group in front of the class. First, each student explained how their individual instrument worked, and demonstrated how to manipulate it to create different pitches and volumes.

We hope you enjoy the videos of each performance! Ask your child about the process behind their final product, and how you can "see" sound.
