Ancient Egyptian Technology
This week our 5th graders worked as teams, researching the technology and innovations of the ancient Egyptians. They discovered some fun facts about the first known solar calendar (a little different from ours today!), ancient engineering and simple machines used to transport water from the Nile to the fields, the water clock, boats, and the cool system of tally marks and hieroglyphics the Egyptians used to manipulate mathematical figures to both design functional pyramids and feed the hundreds of thousands of farmers and slaves constructing them. Then, each team designed a fun game to teach the other students the results of their research. Judging by the high scores on our recent Egypt test, our 5th grade "teachers" did a fantastic job!
