STEM Project- Creating A Water Slide
Wednesday afternoon, the second graders participated in a STEM activity! We have been learning all about water and for this project they were able to use their knowledge on the topic. They were asked to create a waterslide for a small bear (Ted E. Bear) to go down.
First, we read the book below:
First, we read the book below:
This is about a young girl (Rosie) who wants to become an engineer. She takes items that people have thrown away and creates new ideas out of them!
We then reviewed the design process and the children were given the following materials:
Half of a paper towel roll
Tin foil
Wax paper
Plastic wrap
Masking tape
Straws
Pipe Cleaners
They were placed in groups of 3 and were told the following rules:
The water slide had to be open (not a tube)
There needed to be a ladder for the bear to climb
The water slide could not leak
Ted E. Bear needed to slide, not drop to the water
