Purim, Dreamcatchers, and Performances...Oh, My!

You'd think after a vacation we'd have a slow transition back into our school routine, but nothing could have been further from the truth this week! We arrived on Monday morning ready to roll, and we accomplished an incredible amount of work and learning. This included presentations of two of our Tamchui organizations for this year: Leket Israel and Music and Memory.

Below you will find photos of the kids in their Purim costumes. (I got as many as I could with the kids I could round up or would give me permission!) We enjoyed a rowdy reading of the Megillah during minyan, fulfilling one of the mizvot of the holiday. The other three...providing for the poor, giving mishloach manot to others, and enjoying a festive meal...were fulfilled by our lessons on Tamchui, the donations of mac/cheese to local food pantries, our mishloach manot bags for American soldiers overseas, and hamanstaschen for dessert for Pizza Thursday.

You will also find photos from our latest Social Studies class. The kids learned more about the Ojibwe tradition of dreamcatchers, and they took on the project of creating their own. They are quite beautiful and will be on display in the classroom.

Finally, we had our first Fables performance rehearsal today. The kids should continue to practice reading their scripts at home, with an emphasis on oral reading fluency: PACE, PROJECTION, and EXPRESSION are of paramount importance!

Have a very wonderful weekend...and stay warm, dry, and safe in this wet weather!
